Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new campus of Nalanda University located close to the site of the ancient ruins of the Buddhist centre of learning in Rajgir, Bihar today, June 19, 2024. The campus will be unveiled in the presence of external affairs minister S Jaishankar and ambassadors of 17 countries.

Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar on 19th June, 2024 to inaugurate New Nalanda University. The university is built near to Rajgir Ancient University ruins. He will do the inauguration around 10:30 am in the morning and will be joined by Bihar’s Governor Rajendra Vishwanath and Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Nalanda University’s New Campus Inauguration
The University’s interim Vice- chancellor Abhay Kumar Singh has termed his occasion “historic”. He stated that the visit of Prime Minister will be prestigious and auspicious as it will enhance the university’s global recognition. Furthermore, he mentioned that the Bihar Government has made a significant contribution in steering the former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s proposed idea in the right direction.
History and Governance of Nalanda University
Nalanda University having its roots from 427CE when the first residential university of the world founded at Nalanda by Emperor Kumaragupta which flourished for over 800 years.
The university was established under The Nalanda University Act, 2010 that implemented decisions which unites 10 Asian states and six partners, in the second and the fourth East India Summit in Philippines (2007) and Thailand (2009) respectively.
As per the act, the university consist six schools, namely:-
- Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions;
- Historical Studies;
- International Relations and Peace Studies;
- Business Management (Public Policy and Development Studies);
- Languages and Literature;
- Ecology and Environment Studies
