Business News, New Delhi: Governor of The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Shaktikanta Das launched a mobile application on Wednesday called ‘Mobile Aided Note Identifier’ (MANI) to aid visually challenged (who suffering from blindness) persons in identifying the denomination of currency notes.
The application is totally free and you can download it from the Android Play Store and the iOS App Store. This mobile application does not authenticate a note as being either genuine.
“Indian banknotes contain several features, which enable the visually impaired (colour blind, blind people) to identify them, viz., intaglio printing and tactile mark, variable banknote size, large numerals, variable colour, monochromatic hues and patterns,”
official statement released on Wednesday by Shaktikanta Das
The app is capable of identifying the denominations of Mahatma Gandhi series banknote by checking front or reverse side or part of the note including half folded notes at various holding angles and a broad range of light conditions (normal light/daylight/low light, etc.).

Feature: It also has the ability to identify the denomination through an audio notification in Hindi & English and non-sonic mode such as vibration.

once you install this app (MANI) on your smartphone, it does not require the internet means you can use this app offline mode. It has the ability to navigate the mobile application via voice controls for accessing the application features wherever the underlying device and operating system combination supports voice-enabled controls.
How to use MANI App?
- First, download the app from the play store or app store.
- Register yourself on this app through email or mobile number.
- Give permissions like audio, camera, etc to the app.
- choose your language Hindi or English.
