Tsunami Alert Issued in Indonesia

Fresh Tsunami alerts have been issued in Indonesia after successive eruptions from the Ruang Mountain went thousands of feet high in the sky. This caused the alert and possibility of a coming Tsunami. With five major eruptions in the past 24 hours, this volcano located in the northern side of Sulawesi Island has become the danger of Tsunami for Indonesia.

11,000 people are advised to leave the area

As Indonesia lies around a cluster of active volcanoes and is very prone to volcanic eruptions, keeping this mind and observing the volcanic eruptions of Ruang Mountain in the past 24 hours which doesn’t seem to be normal, Indonesia Centre for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation have raised their highest alert. Around 11,000 people were advised to leave and by early Wednesday, approximately 800 people had already left the area.

Indonesia’s Topographical Location

Indonesia’s growth in the past years has been enormous and is walking on the path to become one of the developed nations. But the topographical location in terms of natural calamities is very poor. It is the home to 270 active volcanoes and rests on active seismic fault lines (horseshoe shaped fault lines) called the “Ring of Fire”.

Advisory for the Tourist

The Government of Indonesia is afraid of Tsunami as they are worried about the collapsing of the volcano during eruptions into the sea causing Tsunami as happened in 1871. And the tourists are advised to stay at least 6 km away from the 725 meter high Ruang Volcano.

Residents of Tagulandang Island are told to evacuate

Tagulandang Island which is located northeast of the volcano is at the highest risk and that’s why people at this place are told to evacuate this area. These residents are being shifted to Manado, the nearest city on Sulawesi Island and it takes six hours by boat to reach there. In 2018 similar eruptions killed 430 people in Indonesia.
